Thai artist Waraporn Khanthasiri will be donating a collection of eight bird paintings to the Gyalyum Charitable Trust.

The paintings of birds found in Bhutan, as well as one Thai bird, will be displayed in an exhibition at Craft Gallery in Thimphu.

Titled “Theundrel: Endemic Birds of Bhutan”, the exhibition will be held from July 27 to July 30. Some of the birds featured are the black-necked crane, Ward’s trogon, Himalayan monal and the blood pheasant.

Self-taught artist who serves the Global Environmental Organisation

Waraporn - who also goes by the name Charcoal - is a self-taught artist who first started painting eight years ago and instinctively painted a bird. To her, that moment was a life-changing one.

Waraporn said that her 15 years of service in the Global Environmental Organisation has made her realise how “great and fragile nature is”.

She also explained that her trekking trips within Bhutan has “brought me to witness the incredible beauty of nature that I have never dreamt about.”

“As an amateur birder and a small trekker, I only hope that my expression through my humble artworks of birds will chirp themselves to communicate with their audiences.

“Bhutan has been a dream destination and a place of awe and wonder with all the natural beauty. Hence, it is my honour and dream come true to offer the collection of eight Bhutanese endemic birds to the Craft Gallery, Gyalyum Charitable Trust,” said Waraporn.

Thuendrel: Endemic Birds of Bhutan exhibition will be held at Craft Gallery, Thimphu, from July 27 at 4pm to 7pm, and from July 28 to 30 at 9am to 7pm.
