First Bhutanese Woman Paralympic Athlete to train with BSF

Kinley Dema, 23, will be the first paraplegic to train with the Bhutan Shooting Federation (BSF) so that she may be able to participate in the Paralympic Games in future.

Hailing from Wangduephodrang Dzongkhag, Kinley Dema was born physically challenged and has not been to school. She is supported by her mother and sister.

Kinley Dema said that every negative emotion caused her pain but she was determined to find strength and help to not only live but to live a life of dignity and self-respect. “I am interested in sports and have been looking for such opportunities since a long time back,” she said.

She said she is blessed and fortunate to have received assistance from SEISA Group, Japan and the Bhutan Olympic Committee. “It is only with their support I could think of a change in my life and I shall never forget the goodness of their heart,” Kinley Dema said.

With paraphernalia support by Yasuo Miyazawa, the Founder of SEISA Group in Japan, to BSF coach Dorji Phurba, he shared that he is equally obliged to receive noble support from the SEISA Group. He said the regular training will commence soon after Kinley Dema receives training kits.

He stated that so far Kinley Dem is the first one to come forward after the introduction of Paralympic Games in the country. “We hope that many more get inspired by her and come forward to grab such opportunities provided by BOC and SEISA Group,” the coach said.

The SEISA Group has also donated a wheel chair, which will enable Kinley Dema to move around.
