Delegates From California Hopes To Replicate Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness Model Of Development

A delegation from the California State Senate, led by Senator Toni G. Atkins, is in the country to learn about Gross National Happiness (GNH), the environment, women’s issues and the judiciary of Bhutan.

Tandi Dorji of Tara Tours and Trek said that the delegation came to work out a way to replicate GNH in California.

What the delegates from California hope to learn from Bhutan

“They wanted to learn about how it is working in Bhutan and to take back the lessons and implement out there.”

The delegation met with the foreign minister and other senior government officials. Senator Atkins also said that Bhutan has inspired his team.

He also added that Bhutan is the only country in the world that is carbon negative and felt that there was an “opportunity to learn from Bhutan’s society and culture.”

“Issue around climate change is global. We have to have this relationship if we want be successful, and we look at Bhutan.”

The delegation will leave on November 21.
