Located in Thimphu, this academy is intended for the training of national teams across various age groups and is open to anyone interested in learning the sport.

The first group to utilize the indoor facilities consisted of potential players for the senior men's national team, who are preparing for the Asian Cricket Council Challenger Cup scheduled for February next year.

Situated on the upper floor of the Multilevel Car Park near the Lungtenzampa bridge, the Thimphu Indoor Cricket Academy boasts five practice pitches.

One of the candidates vying for a spot in the men's team is the seasoned player Manoj Adhikari, a member of the national cricket team for more than two decades.

"This facility will enhance our coaching capabilities, as coaches can now operate year-round," Manoj explained. "It also allows for the introduction of new players. Being indoors makes it a convenient choice for parents like me; I am a father of two who have no reservations about sending their kids here. The facility is always clean and hassle-free. In these respects, it will consistently benefit Bhutan Cricket."

Manoj emphasized that the indoor academy meets international standards and will prove advantageous for players with work commitments since the facility can be utilized during the evenings.

The BCCB intends to offer memberships to the general public and will assign coaches to train cricket enthusiasts at the academy.

"We are planning to implement marketing strategies because we need to generate funds for maintaining this facility," said Damber S Gurung, Chief Executive Officer of Bhutan Cricket Council Board. "Our primary goal is to provide excellent facilities and a safe environment, particularly for kids enrolling here. Additionally, we aim to attract proficient coaches who can contribute to the development of these cricketers."

The construction of the Thimphu Indoor Cricket Academy received financial support of approximately four million ngultrum from the Asian Cricket Council.

From next week, the facility will be open to everyone, offering a hands-on experience with cricket. From 10 AM to 10 PM, individuals interested in batting or bowling can come and practice, all free of charge.
